A few days ago, as I was laying next to Alicia for her nap time, I was on my phone bragging about my yummy cooking…
All of a sudden Alicia lifts her head up from her deep sleep and looks at me angrily saying: “But Mommy, why are you saying you make Mloukhieh, you don’t cook, it is Sino who cooks! Her food is the best ever!!!”
“Sino” AKA Sidonie, is Alicia’s nanny and has been my savior at home ever since I divorced…
When I was too sad to care or too depressed to cook or even sometimes to wake up with Alicia to school, she was the one that fixed everything for me just the way I had taught her when I was “normal”.
At home, she picked up much more than Alicia’s toys. She picked up my pieces!
Sidonie happens to be a single mother too. One of Ivorian origins who got pregnant while in college and had to drop out to deliver and take care of her son while the man simply didn’t bother to be part of their lives…
She is one of the most devoted and smartest women I know!
I always used to look at her thinking how unfair life can be. She is much smarter than me and most of the women I know combined! She is stronger, simply a real African woman!
Today on Mother’s Day, I decided to dedicate my platform to her… To all of her efforts, her sleepless nights with me and Alicia for when Alicia was ill it was not only me and my mom that cared for her and stayed by her side but Sidonie as well.
To all the women that assist us in raising our children, from the Nannies at home to the teachers at school, I salute you…
