As I was laying in bed contemplating like I happen to do a little bit too much, I received a call that left me boiling with rage…
I am not one that likes to keep poisonous emotions contained in my body for I believe in the saying
“He who angers you controls you”
and would never give that power to anybody, hence I always look for a quick solution to flush the negativity out of my body and regain my balance!
One of my strongest assets is the good people I surround myself with and have as friends.
I picked my phone up and dialled the number of Fabienne knowing that our conversation would leave me laughing to my bones for that is my favorite kind of therapy.
What I hadn’t expected though is that it would inspire me to write, which is also another mean of calming myself down.
“If you are to choose an era to be reborn in, what would it be”, she said.
Immediately I burst out in laughter and asked her, “what were you dreaming of”?
She went on saying, “I am being serious now. Let us take Liliane for example, she would like to be born in the corset era!”
All of a sudden I became short of breath as if someone was putting me into a wood-inserted corset and pulling the strings on the back so hard that my ribcage cracked…
OOHHH, NO WAY NO!
If that’s the case and I had to choose a character it would be a Hippie.
I am a liberal person, and if I had to belong it would be to the “ Wandering bird” movement that opposes formalities and traditions. I favor peace, love, and personal freedom.
As the Beatles put it “All You Need is Love” and that is my religion!
“Why not a ROCKSTAR”?, she says.
Well, aren’t these two interrelated?, I think to myself.
Aren’t they both rebellious movements against everything?
Freedom of love in all it’s forms, “Make Love Not War”, “Power to the People”, crossing all boundaries, breaking all societal limits, non-conformities and so on…
What are the differences though?
Simplicity versus extravagance?
Maybe Alice Cooper Said it best, “The hippies wanted peace and love. We wanted Ferraris, blondes and switchblades.”
All of a sudden I seemed to understand better the paradox behind the band name “Guns and Roses”.
Bottom line is, both these movements promoted individuality!
Being the mother of a daughter, this makes me think of the future and ask the question: What would I want my daughter to become?
In its turn, this brings me to an article written by a smart young lady,@saraprivy titled “My Daughter: You Will Never Be a Princess”, telling mothers to empower their daughters to develop traits of confidence, independence, fierceness, strength, and ambition in order to create their own future rather than focusing on the shallow shell to only look pretty and girly and sit around and wait for the knight in the shining armour riding his white horse across the green field for that simply doesn’t exist.
Alicia, I hope the day comes and I see you blossom into the most amazing hippie soul, with the attitude of the the most legendary rockstar…
